CHICAGO — The ALA Public Programs Office (PPO) and the Lunar and Planetary Institute (LPI) invite library professionals to attend a free online learning opportunity demonstrating hands-on activities to engage young audiences in space science.  Entitled “Marvel Moon,” the online session will acquaint library audiences with NASA's investigations into the ongoing saga that has shaped our Moon and will present the LPI’s Explore! learning module that makes these investigations fun and interactive for children and teens.

Public libraries invited to apply by March 6 to receive $8,000 grant and 18 months of professional development in community engagement

CHICAGO — The American Library Association (ALA) Public Programs Office is accepting applications for the Libraries Transforming Communities Public Innovators Cohort, an 18-month, team-based professional development opportunity for public libraries, developed by ALA and the Harwood Institute for Public Innovation.

CHICAGO – The Meadowbrook School of Weston Library in Weston, Mass. is the recipient of the 2013 Sara Jaffarian School Library Program Award for Exemplary Humanities Programming, the American Library Association (ALA) Public Programs Office announced. The Meadowbrook School Library will receive a plaque recognizing the achievement, a cash award of $4,000 and promotion of the winning program as a model for other school libraries through ProgrammingLibrarian.org.
