ALA to announce the next classics in children’s and young adult literature and media

CHICAGO — Children’s and young adult authors, illustrators and publishing groups are waiting in anticipation for the 2013 American Library Association (ALA) Youth Media Award announcements.   The ALA will announce 19 awards at 8 a.m. PT on Jan. 28 from the Washington State Convention Center in Seattle.  The awards include the esteemed John Newbery Medal, Randolph Caldecott Medal, Coretta Scott King Book Awards and Michael L. Printz Award.

Oak Park students learn to distinguish fact from opinion in News Know-how news literacy project

CHICAGO — High school students, using the Oak Park (Ill.) Public Library as their “newsroom,” gained valuable lessons in distinguishing fact from opinion, as they examined news coverage of a wide range of important issues through the News Know-how news literacy project.

CHICAGO — Thousands of webcast viewers will join more than 1,300 onsite audience members for the 2013 announcement of the American Library Association (ALA) Youth Media Awards at 8 a.m. Pacific time on Jan. 28. The announcements are part of the ALA Midwinter Meeting, held Jan. 25 – 29 at the Washington State Convention Center in Seattle.

CHICAGO — Caroline Kennedy has been named the 2013 Honorary Chair of National Library Week (April 14-20, 2013), according to the American Library Association. During National Library Week and throughout the month of April, libraries of all types—public, school, academic and special-- hold special events to highlight the unique role libraries play in American society and encourage the public to use their resources.
