CHICAGO — The Reference and User Services Association (RUSA) will host RUSA 101, a networking and orientation event for interested, new and current members from 3 - 4 p.m. on Friday, June 26, in conjunction with the 2015 American Library Association (ALA) Annual Conference in San Francisco. ALA unveils shortlist for 2015 Andrew Carnegie Medals for Excellence in Fiction and Nonfiction

CHICAGO —The American Library Association (ALA) today announced the six books shortlisted for the esteemed Andrew Carnegie Medals for Excellence in Fiction and Nonfiction, awarded for the previous year's best fiction and nonfiction books written for adult readers and published in the U.S. As part of an announcement and medal presentation event at the 2015 ALA Annual Conference in San Francisco in June, each winning author will receive $5,000, and the four finalists will each receive $1,500. 

Selected 2015 shortlisted titles are:

Cathy Langer, Tattered Cover Bookstores, joins 2016 Andrew Carnegie Medals for Excellence in Fiction and Nonfiction

CHICAGO — Cathy Langer, lead buyer for the independent Tattered Cover Bookstores in Denver, Colorado, joins the 2016 Andrew Carnegie Medals for Excellence in Fiction and Nonfiction selection committee. She was chosen by the American Booksellers Association (ABA) to represent independent booksellers on the committee, reflecting the impact and influence of the awards on general readers beyond the library.

Guide to Reference to cease publication

CHICAGO — ALA Publishing, in collaboration with the Guide to Reference Editorial Review Board, is discontinuing Guide to Reference. The subscription website will continue to operate and be updated through Jan. 31, 2016 but will immediately cease accepting new subscriptions; renewals will be accepted on a prorated basis.  The Guide will be freely accessible beginning February 2016 but at some future date will cease to be available online.
