Winners of National Short Fiction Contest announced

CHICAGO  — Six outstanding writers are being recognized for their entries in the Public Library Association’s (PLA) National Short Fiction Contest. This fall, more than 600 writers across the U.S. entered the contest by submitting short stories on the theme of courage.

Newest PLA 'Quick Reads' book offers guidance for library service to teenage parents

Three public librarians recognized with 'I Love My Librarian' Awards

CHICAGO – Three outstanding public librarians, two of whom are Public Library Association (PLA) members, are 2018 'I Love My Librarian' Award winners. This award encourages library users to recognize the accomplishments of exceptional public, school, college, community college, or university librarians who go above and beyond traditional library service. Up to ten librarians are selected annually for this prestigious honor: each one receives a $5,000 cash award, a plaque and a travel stipend to attend

PLA sponsors 2019 ALA Emerging Leaders Glidden and Shah

CHICAGO -- The Public Library Association (PLA), a long-time supporter of the American Library Association's Emerging Leaders (EL) program, will sponsor the participation of two library professionals in the 2019 EL class. EL is a leadership development program which enables newer library workers from across the country to participate in problem-solving work groups, network with peers, gain an inside look into ALA's structure, and have an opportunity to serve the profession in a leadership capacity. 

Public Library Association supports libraries in connecting consumers to health care coverage

CHICAGO – Today (Nov. 1, 2018*) marks the beginning of the six-week enrollment period for health insurance coverage under the Affordable Care Act (ACA), and the Public Library Association (PLA) is providing support for public libraries to help their communities get covered.
