Best Practices from Academic and Public Library Supporters,” an engaging discussion on best practices for library advocacy at ALA’s Midwinter Meeting in Atlanta.

Sponsor a Literary Landmark for Children’s Book Week 2017

BRYN MAWR, Pennsylvania - United for Libraries is partnering with the ALA-Children’s Book Council Joint Committee to designate seven Literary Landmarks during Children’s Book Week (May 1-7, 2017).

United for Libraries, the Children's Book Council and Every Child a Reader encourage groups to nominate and sponsor special locations nationwide that are tied to a deceased children's literary figure, author, or their work.

Three Literary Landmarks to be dedicated in New York

BRYN MAWR, Pennsylvania – United for Libraries, in partnership with Empire State Center for the Book, will dedicate three Literary Landmarks in the coming weeks that will commemorate the rich literary heritage of New York State.  The three landmarks are Steepletop (Austerlitz, N.Y.) on Oct. 23, the Society of Illustrators (New York, N.Y.) on Oct. 27 and the home of Frank Sullivan (Saratoga, N.Y.) on Nov.

Applications now available for United for Libraries/SAGE Academic Friend Conference Grant

BRYN MAWR, Pennsylvania — United for Libraries is accepting applications for the United for Libraries/SAGE Academic Friend Conference Grant through Jan. 9, 2017.

The United for Libraries/SAGE Academic Friend Conference Grant enables a Friend of a college/university library to attend the ALA Annual Conference. Applicants must be active in their college or university Friends of the Library group, or be college/university library staff members who work in development. A grant of $850, plus full Annual Conference registration, will be awarded to the recipient.

National Friends of Libraries Week offers a two-fold opportunity to celebrate Friends – promoting the group in the community, raising awareness and increasing membership and also giving libraries and boards of trustees the opportunity to recognize the Friends for their help and support of the library.

Dedicate a Literary Landmark to celebrate the Pulitzer Prize Centennial

BRYN MAWR, Pennsylvania -  As part of the Pulitzer Prize Centennial celebration, United for Libraries, in partnership with Friends of Libraries in Oklahoma (FOLIO), will dedicate a Literary Landmark for Marquis James (1891-1955), two-time winner of the Pulitzer Prize for biographies of notable Americans.

Free webinar series on building effective library advocacy campaigns

CHICAGO –  The American Library Association’s Office for Library Advocacy is offering a free webinar series designed to teach attendees how to create, market and implement effective advocacy campaigns for libraries.
