Even when contactless pickup may no longer be necessary, these are techniques that libraries can apply to create similar services and adapt to new realities.

Sweeping AASL survey of schools reopening provides revealing snapshot of school library landscape under COVID-19

CHICAGO – As schools across the country make critical decisions about how to handle a variety of back-to-school scenarios, the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) is collecting data from school librarians across the country to gauge the status of teaching, school library use, and school librarians’ roles as school/district plans continue to adapt to the pandemic.

ACCESS the Internet Act to enable libraries to lessen broadband gap in rural and low-income communities

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV) and John Cornyn (R-TX) introduced the bipartisan Accelerating Connected Care and Education Support Services on the Internet Act (ACCESS the Internet Act), which includes funding for libraries. The $2 billion legislation addresses immediate gaps in internet access necessary for distance learning and telehealth.

ALA receives nearly $300,000 federal humanities relief for pandemic-era library programming resources, program support

The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) has awarded the American Library Association (ALA) $278,000 in emergency relief funds to support humanities projects, including the creation of humanities content and resources for library workers in the face of the COVID-19 global pandemic.

The funding, awarded through the NEH Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, will support the development of professional development materials to help libraries present virtual and socially distanced programming for their communities.
