Amanda Jones receives AASL Intellectual Freedom Award

CHICAGO – Amanda Jones, school librarian and president of the Louisiana Association of School Librarians, is the recipient of the 2023 American Association of School Librarians’ (AASL) Intellectual Freedom Award. Established in 1982 and sponsored by ProQuest, the award is given for upholding the principles of intellectual freedom as set forth by AASL and ALA.

Missouri Association of School Librarians receives AASL Chapter of the Year Award

CHICAGO – The Missouri Association of School Librarians (MASL) is the recipient of the 2023 American Association of School Librarians’ (AASL) Chapter of the Year Award. The $1,000 award recognizes the AASL Chapter most active and dynamic in achieving the goals of AASL at the state and local level.

South Carolina Association of School Librarians Awarded AASL ABC-CLIO Leadership Grant

CHICAGO – The South Carolina Association of School Librarians (SCASL) is the recipient of the 2023 American Association of School Librarians’ (AASL) ABC-CLIO Leadership Grant. Sponsored by ABC-CLIO, the $1,750 grant is given to an AASL Chapter for planning and implementing leadership programs at the state, regional, or local level.

AASL Opens STEM Inspire Special Event Grant Application

CHICAGO – The American Association of School Librarians (AASL) STEM Inspire Special Event Grants, made possible through the generous support of the Danaher Foundation, will offer $48,000 in STEM Grant support to provide direct assistance funding to middle or high school libraries for special short-term projects or events that would engage students to promote STEM education and promote student interest in a career in the STEM field.  Direct assistance is capped at $3,000 per grant.

AASL introduces the Toor Scholarship for Strong Public-School Libraries

CHICAGO — The Toor Family, in honor of their parents, Jay and Ruth Toor, have established the Toor Scholarships for Strong Public-School Libraries.  As strong school library advocates throughout their life, Jay & Ruth supported the need for state-certified public-school librarians in every school for all learners.

School librarians invited to apply for $5,000 Sara Jaffarian School Library Program Award

CHICAGO — School librarians are invited to apply for a $5,000 award recognizing outstanding humanities programming in kindergarten through eighth grade, the American Library Association (ALA) Public Programs Office announced.

Nominations for the 2023 Sara Jaffarian School Library Program Award will be accepted until May 5, 2023.

Karleen Delaurier-Lyle Named a 2023 Core Emerging Leader

CHICAGO—Core: Leadership, Infrastructure, Futures is pleased to announce that Karleen Delaurier-Lyle has been selected as a Core Emerging Leader (EL). Delaurier-Lyle serves as the Information Services Librarian at The University of British Columbia, Vancouver Campus where she focuses on indigenous librarianship, library instruction, reference services, and critical indigenous literacy.

Rachel Wells Selected as a 2023 Core Emerging Leader

CHICAGO—Core: Leadership, Infrastructure, Futures is pleased to announce that Rachel Wells has been chosen as a Core Emerging Leader (EL). Wells works as the Reference Librarian at the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in Cooperstown, New York where she is responsible for answering reference questions related to all facets of baseball. She also works on collection development.

"I am humbled to be selected for the ALA Emerging Leaders Class of 2023," Wells said. "I'm ecstatic to work other members and to see what we can accomplish for ALA!"

Alexander Dodd Chosen as a 2023 Core Emerging Leader

CHICAGO—Core: Leadership, Infrastructure, Futures is pleased to announce that Alexander Dodd has been named as a Core Emerging Leader (EL). Currently working as the Continuing Resources Librarian at the University Libraries at the University of Maryland in College Park, MD, Dodd's areas of focus in libraries include open access and scholarly publishing.

"I'm very honored to have been chosen for the class of 2023, says Dodd. "I'm so excited to start working with all the other members of this year's cohort on some interesting and important topics facing the library world."
