ALA urges libraries to participate in National Voter Registration Day
National day of action underscores libraries as centers of civic engagement
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The American Library Association (ALA) is proud to announce that it has once again joined with NonProfit Vote as a premier partner for National Voter Registration Day 2023. As a national partner, ALA encourages libraries across the country to participate in this critical annual celebration, ending with a national day of action on September 19, 2023.
Libraries have long invested in supporting patron civic engagement, from voter registration drives to candidate forums for local, state, and federal elections. Partnering with election agencies, local nonprofits, and other key community leaders, libraries help their patrons stay informed and participate in the electoral process year after year.
Library workers and partners can find sample graphics, social media posts, and other promotional resources at the National Voter Registration Day website. ALA encourages libraries and library workers to engage voters year-round – more tools can be found at ALA’s voter engagement resources page.
In 2022, hundreds of libraries joined ALA and participated in National Voter Registration Day, registering thousands of voters across the country.
