CHICAGO— Applications for the 2015 “Leading to the Future” ALA Leadership Institute (August 9-13, Eaglewood Resort, Itasca, Illinois) are accepted through April 8, 2015. The institute helps future library leaders develop and practice their leadership skills in areas critical to the future of the libraries they lead. Building on the success of the 2013 and 2014 ALA Leadership Institutes, and with support from Innovative Interfaces, the four-day immersive leadership development program for up to 40 mid-career librarians will be led again by ALA Past-President Maureen Sullivan and ACRL Content Strategist Kathryn Deiss.
The application form as well as details and guidelines are available on the Transforming Libraries website. Applicants may nominate themselves or be nominated by their employer. Participation includes a free one-year membership in LLAMA (Library Leadership and Management Association).
Through reflective and active learning, the institute offers participants an opportunity to delve into leadership practices, concepts, and frameworks, and to shape their own sustainable leadership vision and ethos, at the same time as building a learning community and network. With content based on real-world cases and nuanced situations, participants explore topics related to the greatest challenges and possibilities of leading into a future marked by turbulence and ambiguity.
Participants in 2013 and 2014 highlighted a wide range of benefits, describing it as a “life-changing time,” and that it felt like a think tank of 40 “energetic, talented, and visionary” librarians from all types of libraries. 100% of attendees gave the 2014 ALA Leadership Institute the top rating possible in the post-event survey, with comments such as “This is the best institute on the topic of leadership that I have ever attended!” Comments from 2013 and 2014 participants are on the Transforming Libraries website.
Support for the Institute is provided by Innovative Interfaces, Inc. Innovative is dedicated to providing leading technology solutions and services that empower libraries and enrich their users worldwide.
