Asher, Dessen, Kennedy and Mackler join all-star lineup for YALSA’s Reaching Reluctant Readers preconference in New Orleans

CHICAGO — Four popular YA authors — Jay Asher, Sarah Dessen, James Kennedy and Carolyn Mackler — will join authors Walter Dean Myers, Chris Grabenstein and Julie Halpern at the Young Adult Library Services Association’s half-day Annual preconference, “Give Them What they Want: Reaching Reluctant Readers.” All six authors will reflect on how their work speaks to today’s teens and offer insights on how to turn those teens into active readers. The preconference takes place 12:30 to 4:30 p.m., June 24, in New Orleans. You do not need to register for ALA’s Annual Conference to attend this workshop.

Attendees at this pre-Annual Conference workshop will:

  • Learn strategies for reaching today’s teen reluctant readers through collection development, marketing, outreach and more
  • Explore ways to get more teens reading and using the library, from passive programs to use of Web 2.0 tools
  • Find out best practices from colleagues

Tickets for this half-day preconference cost $129 and include light refreshments.
