Teen Read Week™ publicity tools encourage teens to read “Books with Beat”

CHICAGO – With Teen Read Week just around the corner, the American Library Association (ALA) is offering online resources to help public and school libraries publicize their activities.
The promotional effort for this year’s Teen Read Week, held Oct. 17-23, is coordinated by ALA’s Public Information Office (PIO) and the Young Adult Library Services Association. It includes a number of online tools libraries can use to publicize Teen Read Week activities: logos, sample press release, letter to the editor, proclamation and 2010 PSA scripts, as well as customizable PSA scripts and downloadable audio PSAs featuring Nancy Cartwright, the voice of Bart Simpson.
The 2010 Teen Read Week theme of “Books with Beat @ your library” encourages teens to listen to audiobooks and read poetry, books about music and more, just for the fun of it.
Starting in 1998, Teen Read Week, sponsored by YALSA, has inspired teens to visit their public and school libraries, select their own reading material and read for the fun of it.
