CHICAGO—ALA Editions, the publishing imprint of the American Library Association, announces the release of “Multicultural Programs for Tweens and Teens,” edited by Linda B. Alexander and Nahyun Kwon for the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA). A flexible, one-stop resource that encourages children and young adults to explore different cultures, this book contains dozens of programming ideas, helping young adult librarians in public libraries, school librarians, and adult and young adult services staff:
  • choose a program specific to scheduling, budget or age group requirements;
  • create an event that reflects a specific culture;
  • recommend further resources.
Alexander teaches graduate students in the School of Library and Information Science at the University of South Florida. Her published articles and courses cover topics on children’s literature, materials for young adults and multicultural materials for children and young adults.

Kwon teaches at the Department of Library and Information Sciences of Myungji University, Seoul, Korea. Previously, she taught in the Department of Library and Information Sciences at the University of South Florida. Her specialties are information services to diverse groups, information-seeking behaviors, service evaluation and information literacy. She has published numerous articles in these areas.

The mission of YALSA is to advocate, promote and strengthen library service to teens, ages 12-18, as part of the continuum of total library services, and to support those who provide library service to this population.
