CHICAGO—Jennifer Boettcher, business reference librarian at Georgetown University, has been selected as the 2010 recipient of the Gale Cengage Learning Award for Excellence in Business Librarianship. This honor is administered by the Business Reference & Services Section (BRASS) of the Reference and User Services Association (RUSA) and sponsored by Gale Cengage Learning.

Winners of this award are selected for their outstanding contribution to the field of business librarianship. In choosing Boettcher for this honor, the committee cited her numerous contributions to the field of business librarianship. She has published extensively in the field, including the widely used reference book,“Industry Research Using the Economic Census: How to Find It, How to Use It.” In addition, she has presented at numerous professional meetings and published on topics concerning NAICS, government sources, and scholarly communications. She is very active in the business librarian profession—including past service as chair of RUSA's Business Reference and Services Section (BRASS)—and she has taught business reference for a number of years at Catholic University’s library school. Boettcher is also a member of the of the editorial review board of the Journal of Business and Finance Librarianship, a founding member of Business Information Finders and has served on the Georgetown University Faculty Senate since 2005.

Boettcher has worked for Georgetown University since 1997, and in her current capacity serves as business librarian, economics bibliographer, and vendor relation officer at the Joseph Mark Lauinger Library. She has previously worked as a business reference librarian at the West Campus Library, Texas A&M University, and as an information specialist and head of reference as a business reference librarian, and at the National Small Business Development Center Research Network, Albany, New York. In 2005 she received the Lauinger Library Staff Excellence Award for professional leadership. She holds both a M.L.S. from the State University of New York at Albany and a M.B.A from Georgetown University.

Boettcher will receive her award—a citation and $3,000 cash prize—at the RUSA Awards Ceremony and Reception, scheduled for Monday, June 28 in Washington, D.C., as a part of ALA’s Annual Conference events.
