BOSTON— Encyclopedia of Human Rights (Oxford University Press) is the recipient of the 2010 Dartmouth Award, a prestigious honor bestowed annually by the Reference and User Services Association (RUSA) upon a reference work of outstanding quality and significance published in the previous calendar year.

The Encyclopedia of Human Rights was selected for its comprehensive coverage of a timely and important topic. As a major contribution to the literature of human rights, this harrowing but important work chronicles the advances in the human rights movement from 1945 to the present, including such recent issues as the right to health care. Its extensive bibliography and in depth analysis makes this an essential title for all libraries.

Two Honorable Mentions were also given this year to The Encyclopedia of Modern China (Gale) and The Encyclopedia of Journalism (Sage).

The winner was selected by the Dartmouth Award Committee, whose members include Asia Gross, chair, Missouri Library Network Corporation; Barbara Bibel, Oakland Public Library; Theresa Mudrock, University of Washington Libraries; Helene Lafrance, Santa Clara University; Robyn Rosenberg, University of Texas at Austin; and Sue Polanka, Wright State University.
