CHICAGO - To help improve ALA’s ongoing efforts to recruit a diverse pool of talented and dynamic individuals to the profession of librarianship, librarians are invited to participate in a web-based survey which focuses on the accessibility and usefulness of existing ALA recruitment materials. The survey is being conducted by the ALA 2010 Emerging Leaders Project Team S on behalf of the ALA Recruitment Assembly. Responses to the survey will help determine how existing materials can be made more useful and readily available to members in their local recruitment efforts and may lead to the development of new career fair tools.
ALA members may access the survey at
http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/PB8DWGC. The survey contains five questions and should take approximately five to 10 minutes to complete. All responses will be kept confidential. Please complete the survey by Friday, March 12.
The Emerging Leaders Program, established in 2007 in response to an initiative of ALA Past President Leslie Burger, allows newer librarians the opportunity to work in groups to complete projects for various ALA divisions, to network, and to learn about the structure and business of ALA. Emerging Leaders participants gain valuable experience while developing leadership skills that will benefit ALA and the library community. Emerging Leaders Project Team S has been asked to evaluate and consolidate recruitment materials available on the ALA Library Career Recruitment Wiki (
http://wikis.ala.org/recruit/index.php/Main_Page) and
librarycareers.org website, to recommend changes and additions to materials available on the two sites, and to increase the visibility of available recruitment tools.
