CHICAGO - This summer, find tools for improving services to teens in your community by enrolling in Power Up with Print or Beyond Booklists: Serving Today’s Diverse Teens, online courses offered this summer by the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA). Courses run July 12 through August 9 and cost $135 for YALSA members, $175 for ALA members, and $195 for nonmembers.

Power Up with Print, taught by Jamie Watson, will show participants how to encourage teens to read, with tips on boosting circulation by developing teen-centered programming, selecting and evaluating materials that appeal to teens, giving engaging booktalks and more. Watson will also introduce class members to the latest trends in YA literature.

Beyond Booklists, taught by Jennifer Velasquez, will offer participants tools for engaging today’s teens by exploring ways to design, implement and evaluate more in-depth services and programs for diverse teen populations and recent teen immigrants. Participants will also gain skills in addressing issues such as language barriers, cultural differences and institutional support.

Discounts are available for groups of ten or more, and all YALSA e-courses are available for licensing; contact Eve Gaus at egaus@ala.org or 1 (800) 545-2433, ext. 5293, for more information.
