CHICAGO —Registration for Teen Tech Week™ ends this Sunday, Feb. 8. Registration takes place at the Teen Tech Week website, www.ala.org/teentechweek. Teen Tech Week is an annual technology initiative of the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), a division of the American Library Association (ALA). Teen Tech Week 2009 takes place March 8–14, with a theme of Press Play @ your library®, encouraging teens to take advantage of the many technologies available to them, free of charge, at their libraries..
“Registering for Teen Tech Week shows that you support information literacy and sharing technology with teens, as well as the work YALSA does,” said Sarah Cornish Debraski, YALSA president. “Registration shows community leaders, politicians and other stakeholders how important it is to support access to technology in libraries and to present librarians as leaders in guiding teens, their parents and caregivers in using technology.”
Those who register will also receive freebies and benefits from the Teen Tech Week promotional partners. The first 100 registrants in February will receive a free galley of  “Swoon” by Nina Malkin, courtesy of Teen Tech Week Promotional Partner Simon & Schuster. All registrants will also enjoy free access to the Teen Health & Wellness database from Feb. 18 to March 27, courtesy of Promotional Partner Rosen Publishing, as well as the opportunity to win a free year’s subscription.
Teen Tech Week is a national initiative sponsored by the Young Adult Library Services Association and is aimed at teens, their parents, educators and other concerned adults. The initiative encourages teens to become competent and ethical users of technologies, especially those that are offered through libraries such as DVDs, databases, audiobooks, and videogames. Teen Tech Week also recognizes that librarians are qualified, trusted professionals in the field of information technology. Teen Tech Week began in 2007 with a general theme of Get Connected @ your library. Teen Tech Week Promotional Partners include ALA Graphics, Evanced Solutions, Galaxy Press, Rosen Publishing, Simon & Schuster, and the Verizon Foundation.
