CHICAGO -
As part of its efforts to help job seekers re-tool their skills and prepare for job searches, the ALA Placement Center will provide free workshops in the Placement Center during the American Library Association’s Midwinter Meeting in Boston.




The workshops will be held on Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 16-17, 2010. Registration is not required to attend.




There are two works scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 16. The first “Beyond the Basics of Interviewing: How to Stand Out in a Crowd of Competition during a Tough Economy,” will be held from 10:30 a.m. – noon. The presenter will be Vicki Burger, assistant director of library personnel, Northwestern University, Evanston, Ill.




The second workshop scheduled to take place on Saturday, “Moving Your Career and Job Search Ahead: Surviving in Tough Economic Times” will be held from 1:30 – 3 p.m. This workshop will be presented by Dr. Caitlin Williams, career development consultant and coach, San Jose, Calif.


There are also two workshops being held on Sunday, January 17. The first one, ”Finding a Job When Times are Tough,” will be held from 9 – 10:30 a.m. and presented by Vicki Burger.




The second session on Sunday, “Interviewing Basics from an Employers’ Perspective,” will be held from 1:30 – 3 p.m. This workshop will be presented by Melanie Garaffa, a human resources consultant for the University Library at McMaster University, Ontario, Canada.
