CHICAGO – As parents get ready to send their children back to school, the American Library Association’s (ALA) Public Information Office (PIO) would like to remind everyone that Library Card Sign-up Month is right around the corner.
Observed each September since 1987, Library Card Sign-up Month is a time when the ALA and libraries across the country remind parents that a library card is the most important school supply of all and the “smartest card” in every wallet.
With the help of this year’s Honorary Chair Candace Parker – WNBA star and Olympic gold medalist – the PIO is in the process of placing print and audio PSAs featuring the star in magazines and on radio stations throughout the U.S.
The print and audio PSAs featuring Parker are available for download, as are other materials for libraries looking to promote Library Card Sign-up Month locally. Sample press materials, including a press release, letter to the editor, proclamation, PSA scripts and smartest card logos, can be found at
www.ala.org/librarycardsignup.
