CHICAGO - The Business Reference and Services Section (BRASS) seeks applicants for the 2009 BRASS
Gale Cengage Learning Student Travel Award.

Students enrolled in an ALA-accredited library school program are encouraged to apply for this travel scholarship—a $1,000 cash award to cover travel expenses incurred for participating in the
2009 ALA Annual Conference happening in Chicago, July 9-15. Candidates must demonstrate an interest in pursuing a career as a business reference librarian, as well as the potential to become a leader in the profession. The award committee will examine the applicant’s demonstrated coursework, internships, jobs, special projects and/or related activities.

In addition to the cash award, the winner will receive a one-year membership to ALA, the
Reference and User Services Section (RUSA) and BRASS, if they are not already a member, and an opportunity to participate in BRASS events such as presentations, programs and committee meetings. Following the conference, he or she will also write a brief article about the conference experience to be publishing in a subsequent issue of RUSA Update, the division’s newsletter.

Those interested in submitting a nomination for this award can download the nomination form from the awards section of the RUSA website or request the form from Liz Markel, RUSA Marketing Specialist, via e-mail at lmarkel@ala.org, or from Christy Donaldson, chairperson for the award committee, at christy.donaldson@uvu.edu. All nominations must be received by Dec. 15. The winner will be notified in January 2009 and recognized at the RUSA Awards Program at the annual conference.

The Reference and User Services Association, a division of the American Library Association (
