CHICAGO - The Library and Information Technology Association (LITA) Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Jean Rainwater to the position of LITA Web Manager.

Following an application process that culminated in interviews at ALA Midwinter, the board approved Rainwater, Co-Leader of Integrated Technology Services at Brown University Libraries, <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Providence, R.I., to begin her two-year term in March.

Bonnie Postlethwaite, LITA past president and chair of the search committee said, “Jean Rainwater brings excellent Web site development and management experience to the role of LITA Web Manager. Her vision for a dynamic and state-of-the-art site reflects what LITA members want. I look forward to a refreshed and refreshing new LITA Web site under Jean’s direction.”

The LITA Web manager’s responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating the LITA web site, working with appropriate LITA Committee and Interest Group coordinators, LITA Web editors, the board and staff.
  • Determining the content, form and design of the site, which provides "the face of LITA" to both its members and the public in consultation with the LITA board.
  • Working with the LITA Office to investigate, test and implement new technologies for Web publishing.
  • Establishing a Web technologies sandbox for prototyping and developing new services and content for LITA members, as well as inviting and authorizing LITA members to participate in this development activity.
  • Chairing and coordinating the activities of the LITA Web Coordinating Committee.
  • Providing LITA representation on the ALA Web Advisory Committee.

LITA, with more than 4,000 members, has been serving the needs of the library and information technology community since 1966. Its mission is to educate, serve and reach out to that community through its programs, publications and other activities.

LITA is a division of the American Library Association.
