LITA Acquisitions Editor named

CHICAGO - The Library and Information Technology Association (LITA) Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Robert McDonald to the position of LITA Acquisitions Editor.

Following an application process and interviews conducted by the LITA Publications Committee, the LITA board approved
McDonald, Chronopolis project manager for the San Diego Supercomputer Center at U.C. San Diego, La Jolla, Calif., to begin his two-year term in March 2008.

Michelle Frisque, LITA board liaison to the Publications Committee said, “I am excited that Robert McDonald is joining LITA as the Acquisitions Editor for LITA Guides and Monographs.
Robert will continue to develop LITA Guides and monographic publications as well as experiment with innovative approaches for creating and distributing future LITA publications.”

The Acquisitions Editor is charged with developing topics for LITA guides and monographs, soliciting suggested publications from LITA members and others, interacting with authors to produce the publications in appropriate formats and coordinating the editorial review of content by members of the LITA Publications Committee.

The LITA Acquisitions Editor’s responsibilities include:

  • Staying abreast of current and emerging library and information technologies to garner ideas for topical publications.
  • Actively soliciting authors.
  • Determining the most suitable publishing format for the content.
  • Working with the chair of the Publications Committee to coordinate editorial review among committee members, including delivery of content to individual committee members and determination of deadlines for the editorial review process.
  • Ensuring that at least two publications are produced each year.
  • Evaluating new technologies with the goal of maximizing exposure and distribution of time sensitive content and working with the Publications Committee and LITA to implement publishing formats and methodologies that meet the needs of our readership.

LITA, with over 4,000 members, has been serving the needs of the library and information technology community since 1966. Its mission is to educate, serve and reach out to that community through its programs, publications and other activities. LITA is a division of the American Library Association.
