Suzanne Ward receives Boucher-OCLC Distinguished ILL Librarian Award

CHICAGO-Suzanne M. Ward, head of Access Services, Purdue University Libraries, West Lafayette (Ind.), is this year's recipient of the Virginia Boucher-OCLC Distinguished Interlibrary Loan (ILL) Librarian Award. The award recognizes and honors a librarian for outstanding professional achievement, leadership and contributions to ILL and document delivery.

The Sharing and Transforming Access to Resources Section (STARS) of the Reference and User Services Association (RUSA), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), administers the award.

The award is named for Virginia Boucher, professor emeritus at the University of Colorado-Boulder and former ILL librarian whose significant contributions and leadership enhanced the field of interlibrary loan. The $2,000 award and citation are donated by OCLC, Online Computer Library Center.

“Suzanne Ward has served as head of Access Services at Purdue University Libraries for 13 years and been a proactive leader in the profession for 26 years. She is an innovator in the interlibrary loan field, working to advance resource sharing with projects such as the 'on demand' program at Purdue University,” said Suzanne Turner, chair of the award committee. “She has an impressive history of scholarship that includes journal articles such as the “Books on Demand: Just-in-Time Acquisitions,” printed in
The Acquisitions Librarian, a book, book editorships, conference presentations, panel discussions, and workshops.”

“I'm thrilled to be recognized by my peers for my contributions to resource sharing,” Ward said. “Resource sharing involves many other supportive people to make it work, so recognition is also due to my staff and the administration at Purdue University Libraries, as well as hundreds of interlibrary loan folks across North America and around the world, whose generosity in lending their materials has helped make me successful.”

The award will be presented from 4 to 6 p.m. June 30 at the RUSA Awards Ceremony, held during the ALA Annual Conference in Anaheim (Calif.).
