Tutor.com named Teen Tech Week Promotional Partner

CHICAGO -The Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), the fastest-growing division of the American Library Association (ALA), announced that Tutor.com, provider of Live Homework Help® through more than 1,800 libraries in North America, will once again be a promotional partner for the second annual Teen Tech Week, March 2 - 8, 2008.

During Teen Tech Week, Judy Nelson, YALSA past president and the youth services coordinator for the Pierce County Library System in Tacoma, Wash., will host a webinar about the library's experience offering Live Homework Help. The free webinar will take place on Thursday, March 6. Librarians are encouraged to register at
www.tutor.com/ttw as early as possible, since space is limited.

It is no exaggeration that today's teens live in an online world spending up to six hours a day engaging with different types of media. Yet multiple studies have shown that the majority of teens lack the critical thinking skills and technical expertise to use the Internet and other electronic resources effectively.

Libraries and librarians play a vital role in bringing students the skills they need to use technology effectively. According to the
Pew Internet and American Life Project, 71% of teens report that the Internet is their primary source for completing school projects. Live Homework Help is one of the most popular resources teens can access through their library to assist them in not just completing homework assignments but improving their success at school and becoming more competent users of technology.

The free Webinar will explore how the Pierce County Library System partnered with local schools to reach out to teens to promote the one-to-one, online homework help service as well as drive library card registration and overall awareness of the library's services. According to Nelson, “The Pierce County community values this resource as one more way for all our students to be academically successful. The library is pleased to be able to provide this service in both English and Spanish.” Live Homework Help connects students with expert tutors within minutes during after-school hours in math, science, social studies and English.
