RUSA recruits for Genealogy Boot Camp at Annual Conference

CHICAGO- The Reference and User Services Association (RUSA), History Section is recruiting registrants for a full-day preconference on genealogy and ancestry research, “Genealogy Boot Camp,” from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Friday, June 27, during the American Library Association (ALA) Annual Conference in Anaheim, Calif.




“Learn the basics of ancestry research and genealogy reference skills during the Genealogy Boot Camp,” said Janice Schultz, chair of the preconference committee. “Whether you are a new librarian or one interested in refreshing your skills, this full-day educational workshop provides the tools you need for giving successful genealogy reference help.”




The special guest lecturer is Elizabeth Shown Mills, author of “Evidence! Citation and Analysis for the Family Historian” (Baltimore: GPC, 1997) and “Professional Genealogy: A Manual for Researchers, Writers, Editors, Lecturers, and Librarians” (Baltimore: GPC, 2001); and “Isle of Canes” (Provo: Ancestry, 2005).




This event is being held at the Muzeo (
www.muzeo.org/), which has the historic Carnegie Library (built in 1908), a museum and cultural arts center, and is located in Anaheim. Attendees will receive a tour of the collections and a catered lunch sponsored by ProQuest.




Advanced registration rates are $99 for ALA members, $99 for RUSA members, $57 for ALA student and retired members and $140 for non-ALA members. Onsite registration rates are $135 for ALA members, $135 for RUSA members, $97 for student and retired members and $180 for non-ALA members.
