CHICAGO — The Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), today launched its Teen Read Week 2008 Web site, opening registration and offering resources for the annual celebration of teen reading, including activity ideas and more. More information, including registration benefits, can be found at www.ala.org/teenread.Teen Read Week is Oct. 12-18, with a theme of Books with Bite @ your library, encouraging teens to read, just for the fun of it.
“Ever since YALSA celebrated the first Teen Read Week more than a decade ago, we have been using the third week in October to remind teens of the importance of reading for pleasure,’” said YALSA President Paula Brehm–Heeger. “While our sub-theme changes each year - and this year's teen-selected theme of Books with Bite" promises to be a great foundation for many creative activities - the basic message remains the same: encourage teens to read and discover all that books and libraries have to offer them.”
Mirrorstone Books, a subsidiary of Wizards of the Coast, is the 2008 Corporate Sponsor of Teen Read Week for the second year in a row. Promotional Partners include ALA Graphics, e*vanced solutions, Galaxy Press, Hachette Book Group USA/Little, Brown Books for Young Readers, Listening Library, Scholastic and Zest Books.
