CHICAGO - The American Library Association (ALA) has named Rebecca Marie Iserman of Eagan, Minn., the recipient of the 2008 Tom and Roberta Drewes Scholarship.

The $3,000 scholarship is awarded to individuals currently working as library support staff and is to be applied toward the pursuit of a master’s degree in library and information science.

Iserman’s interest in libraries began at an early age, when she visited the library where her sister worked and was allowed to help check in returned books. Her early involvement in libraries led to employment at the Owatonna Public Library, where she continued to work from high school through college.

She has held positions in several law libraries, including the circulation, reserves and interlibrary loan department of a law school. She currently performs acquisitions and cataloging duties for a large law firm.

Iserman found her niche in technical services, specifically cataloging and database management. “As I pursue my degree, I look forward to expanding on my knowledge and experience in these areas, and I am excited to contribute to the continuing growth of libraries,” said Iserman.

Iserman will attend University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee.
