2008 David H. Clift Scholarship recipient named
CHICAGO - The American Library Association (ALA) has named Linda Ann Christian of Yellow Spring, W.Va., the 2008 David H. Clift Scholarship recipient.
The Clift Scholarship, named for David H. Clift, a former ALA director, provides $3,000 to individuals pursuing a master's degree in library and information studies.
Christian has aspired to become a librarian for 15 years. She has a multidisciplinary bachelor of science degree, with majors in business, psychology and religion. She has relied heavily on the free public library system, navigating its portals with zeal. “In my personal and professional endeavors I have grasped and nurtured a love of learning, pursuing it hungrily and teaching it to my children,” she said.
Christian plans to use her bachelor’s degree to contribute to her work in library and information science. The business aspect will aid with the financial challenges; the psychology aspect will enable her to lead and direct co-workers and relate to patrons; and the religion aspect will help in archival settings, in utilizing care, patience and tolerance with all peoples.
Christian plans to apply her master’s in library and information science to her interest in the Appalachian Mountains, where many local communities have no library facilities.
Christian will attend Clarion University.
