PLA Sponsors 2008 Emerging Leaders Amy Crump and Troy Reed
CHICAGO - The Public Library Association (PLA) will sponsor Amy Crump and Troy Reed, as they participate in the American Library Association (ALA) 2008 Emerging Leaders Program, an initiative of ALA Immediate Past President Leslie Burger. This year's Emerging Leaders Program will enable 124 librarians from across the country to participate in problem-solving workgroups, network with peers, gain an inside look into ALA structure and have an opportunity to serve the profession in a leadership capacity.
PLA selected Crump and Reed through a competitive application process based on their active involvement in the profession, as well as in ALA and PLA. Amy received her master's degree in Library and Information Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2005. She is currently director of Marshall Public Library in Marshall, Mo. Troy received her master's in Library Science from the University of Arizona in 2004. She is currently an adult services librarian at the Southeast Regional Library in the Maricopa County Library District in Gilbert, Ariz. Both Amy and Troy are members of PLA.
The Emerging Leaders Program will kick off at the 2008 ALA Midwinter Meeting in Philadelphia in January. It t then will grow and develop in an online environment for six months, culminating with the 2008 Annual Conference in Anaheim, Calif., in June. As a sponsor, PLA will provide financial support to offset the cost of attending these events. Participants commit to taking part in all aspects of the program and will have an opportunity to serve on an ALA division, chapter or round table committee, task force or work group upon completion of the program.
