ALA teams up with Credo Reference to put two popular LIS titles online

CHICAGO - ALA Editions, the publishing arm of the American Library Association (ALA), has signed an agreement with Credo Reference (formerly Xrefer), provider of customizable online reference collections, to make two popular library and information science titles available online as part of the Credo General Reference collection.

The titles are "Fundamental Reference Sources, 3rd Edition," by James H. Sweetland and "Reference Sources for Small and Medium-Sized Libraries, 7th Edition," by Jack O'Gorman.

"We're glad that these important resources for librarians, will now be available online," said Patrick Hogan, editorial director at ALA Editions. Hogan said reference librarians use the books to assist with patrons' reference queries and collection development.

"Now, the next generation of LIS students will have instant access to the overall reference landscape. Students and librarians alike will be able to link directly from Credo to other full-text, online versions of these titles or to their catalog to find the book in print," Hogan added.

"Fundamental Reference Sources, 3rd Edition" explores the best available materials in all media for general library collections, outlining what it takes to easily locate, evaluate, and select the best information sources for a wide variety of needs. The 7th edition of "Reference Sources for Small and Medium-sized Libraries" addresses the revolution in reference publishing, including the best-of-the-best and most affordable resources, web sites, CD ROMS, and electronic databases, as well as print.

ALA Editions develops resources for the library and information services community. Over a hundred thousand copies of ALA Editions titles are purchased each year, helping to support ALA's general programs.
