YALSA celebrates 50th anniversary in style at ALA Annual
CHICAGO - The Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), the fastest-growing division of the American Library Association (ALA), will mark its 50th anniversary with two special events at the ALA Annual Conference in Washington, D.C., June 21–27, 2007.
The celebration begins Friday night at YALSA’s anniversary bash—free to all registered conference attendees—at the Renaissance Washington’s Ballroom West A/B at 10 p.m., immediately following the Booklist Books for Youth Forum, and running until midnight. The party includes an open bar and appetizers, giving attendees a chance to mingle with other young adult library workers, authors, editors, and enthusiasts. YALSA’s anniversary party is sponsored by Candlewick Press, Clarion Books, Groundwood Books, Harcourt Children’s Books, HarperCollins Children’s Books, Holt Books for Young Readers, Hyperion Books for Children, Kids Can Press, Lerner Publishing Group, Little, Brown Books for Young Readers, Peachtree Publishers, Penguin Young Readers Group, Random House, Scholastic, School Library Journal, and Simon and Schuster.
Conference attendees are also invited to an anniversary party at YALSA’s Member Booth in the ALA Pavilion of the Exhibits Hall on Sunday, 3:30–4:30 p.m, with free snacks and YALSA freebies. The first 125 visitors will receive free copies of a book by young adult author Simone Elkeles, who will be signing throughout the party. Elkeles’ first book, How to Ruin My Summer Vacation, is a nominee for this year’s Teens’ Top Ten, in which teens from across the United States vote online at
www.ala.org/teenstopten for their favorite books, as nominated by select teen advisory groups.
For 50 years,
YALSA has been the world leader in selecting books, videos, and audio books for teens.
