CHICAGO—The Association of Specialized and Cooperative Library Agencies (ASCLA), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), is offering a preconference on staff development and performance management on Friday, June 22, 2007, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., during the ALA Annual Conference in Washington, DC.

The definition of a library as a learning organization is being rewritten by technology, the changing needs of patrons and types of programs and services provided. They will receive a tool kit to assist them in building an effective staffing model for their organization that will assess staff competencies, develop staffing strengths, and recruit for needed and anticipated skills.
