2007 winner of the AASL Distinguished School Administrators Award named
CHICAGO – Nathan S. Greenberg has been named the American Association of School Librarians’ (AASL) 2007 Distinguished School Administrators Award winner. The $2,000 award, which is sponsored by ProQuest Company, goes to a school administrator who has made worthy contributions to the operations of an exemplary school library media center and to advancing the role of the school library media center in the educational program.
“Mr. Greenberg is a strong advocate for the library program, providing the necessary personnel and resources,” said Gail March, who submitted the winning nomination. “He continuously challenges us to improve and adapt to the changing learning environment, so our students are prepared for tomorrow's challenges. It is that focus on school libraries of the future that makes him an exemplary administrator.”
Greenberg is superintendent of schools in the Londonderry (New Hampshire) School District. He also is a member of the Board of Directors of the New England School Development Council (NESDEC) and is a member of the New Hampshire School Administrators Association.
Since he became the Londonderry School District’s Superintendent in July 2000, Greenberg has aided the implementation of many educational initiatives. These initiatives tend to emphasize collaboration between teachers and library media specialists, the development of research skills through technology beginning in elementary school, and the collection of data to determine program effectiveness and future initiatives.
Moreover, Greenberg has consistently ensured that library media specialists have the financial and technological means to present their research to the school board and travel to conferences, especially AASL’s. Librarians also recently recognized his fervent support for Teachers-Academy-to-Go, a series of brief, online information technology units that teachers can complete in their spare time.
The AASL Distinguished School Administrators Award will be presented at the 2007 ALA Annual Conference in Washington, D.C. on June 25. To learn more about AASL programs and events at the conference, please visit http://www.ala.org/aasl/annual.
