Responses sought for Graduated Dues Research Study

CHICAGO - The American Library Association (ALA) has issued a Request for Information (RFI) for a Graduated Dues Research Study. The RFI is available at

The ALA is seeking information including project scope, recommendations and cost estimates from individuals, or organizations interested in conducting research and facilitating focus group discussions as part of the Graduated Dues Research Study. The study consists of five research components: membership survey, trends in the library profession, dues modeling, revenue impact analysis and stakeholder review.

Marcia L. Boosinger of Auburn University Libraries in Auburn, Ala., and Patricia M. Wong of Stockton-San Joaquin County Public Library in Stockton, Calif., are the co-chairs of the ALA Presidential Task Force on the Graduated Dues Study. During the 2006 ALA Annual Conference, the ALA Council requested that the Task Force be established. Members of the Task Force, with assistance from a Reactor Panel, developed the plan for the Graduated Dues Research Study. Information received in response to the RFI will be included in the Task Force’s final report that will be submitted to ALA Council at the 2008 Midwinter Meeting.

Responses to the RFI are due by September 14, 2007. Questions about the RFI should be directed to John Chrastka, ALA Membership Development Manager, at, or (800) 545-2433, ext. 2159.
