Online registration deadline for Advocacy Institute nears
CHICAGO – The deadline for online registration for the Advocacy Institute at the American Library Association’s (ALA) 2007 Midwinter Meeting in Seattle is this Friday, January 5, 2007. Online registration for both ALA members and nonmembers is $25, a 50 percent savings from the on-site registration fee. To register, visit www.ala.org/midwinter.
The Advocacy Institute takes place on January 19, 2007, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Fairmont Olympic Hotel in Seattle. The morning session will focus on message development and coalition-building techniques. During the lunch hour, a joint-luncheon discussion panel featuring young adult author Patrick Jones and noted millennial researcher Richard Sweeney will discuss nurturing future library advocates through the school and academic levels. Afternoon sessions will focus on topics such as increasing library funding, maintaining budgets and crisis communications.
The Advocacy Institute is co-sponsored by YALSA, the Washington Library Association, Idaho Library Association and the Oregon Library Association and is coordinated by the Advocacy Institute Task Force of the ALA Public Awareness Committee in cooperation with The Association for Library Trustees and Advocates (ALTA), The Chapter Relations Committee, The Committee on Legislation and Friends of Libraries USA (FOLUSA).
