2007 Miriam L. Hornback Scholarship recipient named

CHICAGO - The American Library Association (ALA) is pleased to announce Anna Lea Foote of Kansas City, Missouri as the 2007 recipient of the Miriam L. Hornback Scholarship.

The $3,000 award is given to an ALA or library support staff member to help finance studies toward a master’s degree in library and information studies. The scholarship was named in memory of Miriam Hornback, a longtime ALA staff member, who was secretariat to the ALA Council and Executive Board.

Foote’s inspiration came from the librarian at her local public library that she visited as a child. “I admired her education and the skill with which she made the library a welcoming community place. I hope to provide that sort of inspiration and opportunity to another rural community,” said Foote.

She began working in libraries 10 years ago. She has had the opportunity to serve on several library committees. She was a member of the library’s teen gaming committee, which plans and holds video gaming tournaments. She was also a member of the library’s staff development committee, where she helped plan staff recognition events, including awards ceremonies for best service to patrons and best service to fellow staff members.

Foote desires to work in a small-town library, where her talents and education will serve the population well.

Foote will be attending the University of Missouri.
