2007 David H. Clift Scholarship recipient named

CHICAGO - The American Library Association (ALA) is pleased to announce Kristen Allen of Beavercreek, Ohio as the 2007 recipient of the David H. Clift Scholarship.

The Clift Scholarship, named for David H. Clift, a former director of ALA, provides $3,000 to individuals pursuing a master's degree in library and information studies.

Allen’s decision to become a librarian was solidified at the end of her sophomore year in college when she took a job as a library aide. “As long as I can remember, I have intended to work either as a teacher or as a librarian. I have been at home in libraries my entire life, because my mother is a children’s librarian,” said Allen.

As a library aide, Allen’s responsibilities included re-organization of the main floor of the library, which allowed her to display her talent and creativity.

Allen currently works as a substitute reference librarian at the Dayton (Ohio) Metro Library where she has worked in the adult services department, the magazine room and the local history room at the main library. According to Joseph Greenward, “there is no doubt that with time, Kristen will become a skilled and thoroughly knowledgeable reference librarian.”

Allen attends Indiana University/Purdue University Indianapolis in Indianapolis.
