2007 Cicely Phippen Marks Scholarship recipient named

CHICAGO - The American Library Association (ALA) is pleased to announce Allison L. Snell of Baton Rouge. La., as the 2007 recipient of the Cicely Phippen Marks Scholarship.

The $1,500 scholarship named in honor of the late Cicely Phippen Marks was established by a generous donation from her husband Charles L. Garris and sponsored by the Federal and Armed Forces Round Table (FAFLRT). The scholarship is awarded to individuals pursuing a master’s degree in library and information studies with a focus on federal librarianship.

Snell’s interest in the field of library and information science came from her working at Monmouth (Ore.) Public Library as a library assistant and using military libraries sparked her interest in federal librarianship.

Snell worked as the Student Liaison & Program Coordinator for the ALA pre-conference program ‘Careers in Federal Libraries’. During the conference she assisted FAFLRT committee members and Louisiana State University faculty and students to plan and implement the Careers in Federal Libraries panel. She also worked on setting up a field experience in a federal library for the summer to coincide with the ALA conference.

“I have a strong interest in federal librarianship and hope to follow this interest into my career,” said Snell.

Snell attends Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, La.
