LAMA preconference and bus tour will explore off-site storage in Washington

CHICAGO - If you are an academic librarian or architect and are planning, or evaluating options for collection storage facilities, you won’t want to miss “Off-Site but Not Out of Reach: the Shared High Density Storage Solution,” Friday, June 22, 2007, 8:30 am - 5 pm. This daylong preconference and bus tour will explore the Washington Research Library Consortium (WRLC) high-density shelving facility, shared by eight research institutions.

The tour includes a catered lunch and an onsite afternoon program. Participants will learn about the various issues in planning and/or participating in a shared facility including: the needs of constituencies, funding models, storage and plant options, staffing, auxiliary services, and collection decisions. Resource packets will be provided.

Speakers include: Lizanne Payne and Bruce Hulse, Washington Research Library Consortium; Deborah Slingluff, Johns Hopkins University; John F. Helmer, Orbis Cascade Alliance; and Christopher Loring, Smith College.
