CHICAGO-Learn the basics of business reference by attending the "Business Librarianship 101: Core Competencies for Business Librarianship" institute on Friday, January 19, 2007, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., presented by the Business Reference and Services Section (BRASS) of the Reference and User Services Association (RUSA) during the American Library Association (ALA) Midwinter Meeting in Seattle.

This full-day institute will provide attendees with tips and ideas to add to their business reference collection development repertoire, whether they are helping small business entrepreneurs in a public library setting, assisting MBA students in an academic setting or faced with challenging business questions in a special library.

"Attendees will come away from the Business Librarianship 101 institute with a thorough overview of print and electronic resources for business reference as well as insight into collection development techniques in business and its related topics," said Celia Ross, the institute committee chair.

Speakers will address some of the key resources and strategies employed in this increasingly popular and demanding subject area of librarianship.
The speakers are Mark Andersen, division chief, Business Science Technology, Harold Washington Library Center, Chicago Public Library (Ill.); and Bobray Bordelon, Pliny Fisk Librarian of Economics and Finance, Princeton University (N.J.), and recipient of the 2007 Thomson Gale Award for Excellence in Business Librarianship.
