ALCTS announces Fall/Winter Continuing Education Events
CHICAGO - The Association for Library Collections & Technical Services (ALCTS) is pleased to announce its Fall/Winter Continuing Education Events schedule.
Upcoming workshops include "Principles of Controlled Vocabulary and Thesaurus Design," "Digital Project Management Basics," "Metadata and Digital Library Development," and "Basic Subject Cataloging Using LCSH."

"Principles of Controlled Vocabulary and Thesaurus Design," an ALCTS/Library of Congress Workshop will be held on December 4-5, 2006 in Chicago.
This two-day workshop presents an overview of thesaurus design principles, methods for building a controlled vocabulary and an examination of selected controlled vocabularies.
Presented by Jillian Wallis and Stephen Hearn, this workshop prepares catalogers to defend the use of controlled vocabularies and to participate in the development of specialized thesauri or glossaries for specific projects.
"Digital Project Management Basics," an ALCTS/Library of Congress Workshop will be held on December 8, 2006 in Chicago.
In an applied, exercise-based context, this one-day workshop introduces librarians to the basics of digital project management.
The workshop focuses on the philosophy and approach to digital project management, including evaluation skills. Presented by Mary Woodley, this workshop prepares attendees to serve as project leaders and team members in digital library projects.
"Metadata and Digital Library Development," an ALCTS/Library of Congress Workshop will be held on December 11-12, 2006 in Chicago.
David Ruddy and Tony Chirakos will present this workshop.
The University of Washington also will host the workshop on January 17-18, 2007 in Seattle.
The presenters will be David Ruddy and Luiz Mendes.
In an applied, exercise-based context, this two-day workshop introduces practicing catalogers to metadata implementation considerations and processes in a digital library development context.
This workshop prepares attendees to serve as metadata specialists in digital library projects.
"Basic Subject Cataloging Using LCSH," an ALCTS/PCC Workshop will be held on December 5-6, 2006 in Washington, DC.
OCLC CAPCON will sponsor it.
This two-day workshop presents the full subject analysis training program developed by subcommittees of the ALCTS Subject Analysis Committee (SAC) and the Program for Cooperative Cataloging (PCC) Standing Committee on Training.
Presented by John Mitchell, this workshop benefits catalogers at all levels and individuals involved in the education and training of catalogers.
