2006 winner of the LRRT Jesse H. Shera Award
for the Support of Dissertation Research announced
CHICAGO - The Shera Award Committee of the American Library Association (ALA) Library Research Round Table (LRRT) is pleased to announce Rebecca Miller is the winner of the 2006 Jesse H. Shera Award for the Support of Dissertation Research for her paper, “The Diffusion of Professional Knowledge in Intercultural Exchanges: The American-Bulgarian Library Exchange Case Study.” Miller is a PhD candidate in the School of Library and Information Management, Emporia State University.
This award is intended to provide recognition and monetary support for dissertation research employing exemplary research design and methods. The award is restricted to research designs that have been approved by the doctoral candidate’s dissertation committee and that is about to be employed or is in the initial stage of use. Completed research is not eligible for consideration. Any research design is acceptable, but the topic of the research must relate in at least a general way to library and information studies. Eligibility is not limited to LRRT members.
Jesse H. Shera, former dean of the school of library and information science at Case Western University, was known for his outstanding leadership in promoting the importance of research to the effective development of the theory and practice of library and information service. After his death in 1982, an endowment to support the award was established by LRRT.
