RUSA announces new business reference award

CHICAGO-The Business Reference and Services Section (BRASS) of the Reference and User Services Association (RUSA), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), and Emerald Group Publishing Limited are pleased to announce a new award, the Emerald Research Grant Award, to support business reference research.

Two $5,000 cash awards, donated by Emerald Group Publishing Limited, will be given to ALA members seeking support to conduct research in business librarianship. This award will be offered for two years beginning in 2007.

"Emerald Group Publishing Limited has a long-standing commitment to support the research community via a number of methods including doctoral and research fund awards, benefiting both those at the outset of their academic careers and the more established researchers," said Gillian Crawford, head of corporate communications.
"Our research fund award, targeted at ALA members, reiterates our commitment to the development of LIS research - and it has the added bonus of being run in 2007, our 40th anniversary year."

"Business librarians are curious and entrepreneurial professionals.
This grant will release their potential and give them a chance to explore possibilities and opportunities," said Jennifer Boettcher, BRASS Executive Committee chair.
"I am sure the results of the research will benefit the field of librarianship in public and academic business collections, education, or community development."
