ALCTS Annual Conference forums in New Orleans

CHICAGO - The Association for Library Collections & Technical Services (ALCTS) invites everyone to attend its forums at the Annual Conference in New Orleans.
ALCTS recently inaugurated a forum series, held at various times during each ALA conference, to provide its members the opportunity to hear experts discuss important topics of current concern to the ALCTS and library community.

A few of the upcoming forums for Annual Conference in New Orleans include:

ALCTS Forum:
A conversation on digital preservation

Monday, June 25, 8 - 10 am, Morial Convention Center, Room 353/355

Preservation of e-journal content has become a pressing concern as more and more libraries drop print copies of journals to rely on their electronic counterparts. On September 13, 2005, a meeting of academic librarians, university administrators, and others at The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation in New York on electronic journal preservation resulted in the document "
Urgent Action Needed to Preserve Scholarly Electronic Journals."
The Association of Research Libraries (ARL), the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL), ALCTS, and the Medical Library Association, among others, have endorsed the "Urgent Action" document.
Moderated by Robert Keift, Haverford College, presenters Gordon Tibbetts, president, Blackwell Publishing Inc. (US) and Robert H. McDonald, Florida State University, will address issues and raise questions on: How can libraries and publishers move from a philosophical understanding of the necessity of digital preservation to productive and concerted action?
What are the economic issues involved in building a secure future for a digital history?
