Orange County Library System awarded Thomson Gale Award for Excellence in Reference and Adult Library Services

CHICAGO — The Orange County Library System, Orlando (Fla.), is the 2006 recipient of the Thomson Gale Award for Excellence in Reference and Adult Services awarded by the Reference and User Services Association (RUSA), a division of the American Library Association (ALA).

The $3,000 award and citation donated by Thomson Gale, recognizes a library or library system for developing an imaginative and unique library resource to meet patrons' reference needs.

The Orange County Library System is receiving the award in recognition of the development of eGuides, an innovative reference and teaching tool.

“The Orange County Library System's eGuides is an innovative way to provide reference service,” said Terry Beck, award committee chair. “More than an information path or reference tutorial, eGuides offers the public topical resources in one easy to use Web interface.”

The award will be presented at RUSA Awards Ceremony on June 26, 2006, from 4 to 6 p.m., during the ALA Annual Conference in New Orleans.
