Allan Kleiman named Margaret E. Monroe Library Adult Services Award recipient

CHICAGO – Allan Kleiman, head of reference, Westfield Memorial Library, Westfield (N.J.), is the 2006 recipient of the Margaret E. Monroe Library Adult Services Award administered by the Reference and User Services Association (RUSA), a division of the American Library Association (ALA).

This annual citation, named for Margaret E. Monroe, is presented to a librarian who has made a significant contribution to, and had an impact on, library service to adults. Margaret E. Monroe, a professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison until her retirement in 1981, was nationally known for her contributions to teaching, research and service in the field of library services to adults.

“Allan's advocacy for older adults, his leadership in ALA programs focused on services to older adults, and his willingness to share his expertise at state conferences and training programs make him an outstanding recipient for this award,” said Susan Herzog, award committee chair.

The award will be presented at RUSA Awards Ceremony on June 26, 2006, from 4 to 6 p.m., during the ALA Annual Conference in New Orleans.
