BRASS Thomson Financial Student Travel Award recipient named
CHICAGO—Beth Dunning, a masters of library information science candidate at McGill University, Montreal, is the recipient of the 2006 Business Reference and Services Section (BRASS) Thomson Financial Student Travel Award. BRASS, a section of the Reference and Users Services Association (RUSA), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), presents the award to a candidate who has demonstrated an interest in pursuing a career as a business reference librarian and has the potential to be a leader in the profession.
The cash award of $1,000, donated by Thomson Financial, a division of the Thomson Corporation, will enable a student enrolled in an ALA-accredited master's program to attend an ALA Annual Conference.
“Beth Dunning clearly demonstrates a genuine interest in pursuing a career in business librarianship, along with a record of activities that indicates strong leadership qualities,” said David Flynn, the award committee chair. “As a student, she has gained a variety of library work experiences, including business reference services, and has already begun to publish.”
Flynn added, “She displays a wonderful combination of professionalism, creativity, and ambition. The award committee believes she will continue to contribute to the profession beyond her own library setting.”
The award will be presented at RUSA Awards Ceremony on June 26, 2006, from 4 to 6 p.m., during the ALA Annual Conference in New Orleans.
