OLOS 35th anniversary celebration to feature lecture
by ALA Past President Carla Hayden
New Orleans jazz group will kick off the celebration breakfast
CHICAGO - Carla Hayden, ALA 2003-2004 past president, will give the 2006 Jean Coleman Outreach Lecture at "Jazz in the Morning," a 35th anniversary breakfast and celebration of the Office for Literacy and Outreach Services (OLOS) Monday, June 26, 2006, 7:30 to 10 am, at Annual Conference.
The lecture, entitled "Access Agenda for all Libraries," will celebrate 35 years of advocacy for staff serving traditionally underserved populations in libraries. It will offer a comprehensive "agenda" that incorporates many aspects of library operation and policy outlining the steps necessary to help reach the goal of equal access in any setting.
Virginia H. Mathews, who proposed the OLOS concept when she was chair of the ALA Committee for Library Services for Disadvantaged People in 1967, also will be recognized at the event.
The breakfast, to be held at the Hilton New Orleans Riverside Hotel, in the Versailles Ballroom, will open to the music of a local New Orleans jazz group at 7 am.
Registration is being accepted at the address below until June 9 at $50 for Onsite Registration. New registration:
