New CPLA online courses and candidates approved

CHICAGO - The Certified Public Library Administrator Program (CPLA) Certification Review Committee (CRC) approved two more program courses at the 2006 American Library Association (ALA) Annual Conference in New Orleans.
Both new online courses will be offered by the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), the first library school-sponsored courses to be approved.

Dr. Robert Burger, associate university librarian for services and professor, will teach the two approved core courses: Budget and Finance and Organization and Personnel Management.

The Certified Public Library Administrator program is a voluntary post-MLS certification program for public librarians with three years or more of supervisory experience.

In related CPLA News, 10 candidates who work in public libraries in Florida, Louisiana, Ohio, Illinois, Rhode Island, Nevada, Utah and North Carolina recently were approved in the CPLA program.

The next deadline for provider and candidate reviews is August 10, 2006.
The RFP for providers, application for participants and current course list may be found on the CPLA Web site:
