Public Libraries welcomes new editor and a new design

CHICAGO -
Public Libraries, the journal of the Public Library Association (PLA), enters into its 45th year of publication with an updated design. The January/February 2006 issue of the magazine will have a more modern look and a redesigned layout that features an improved, more imaginative use of space and a more active use of visuals. Westbound Publications of McLean, Va. provided the new design.

In addition to changes in the design of the journal,
Public Libraries begins publication in 2006 with some changes in staff. Renee Vaillancourt McGrath, who served as features editor since 2000, will start a new job as the director of the North Valley (Mont.) Public Library. Kathleen Hughes, former PLA manager of communications and managing editor of the
Public Libraries, will take over as editor.

Also, a new columnist has been added to the roster; Michael Farrelly will present his column “Passing Notes,” which aims to address various young adult issues in public libraries. Paula Wilson's column “Tech Talk” will no longer be featured.

Public Libraries is the bi-monthly journal of the Public Library Association. PLA is a division of the American Library Association.
